Breathe Deeply

I was fortunate enough to attend a professional copy writing class this week in Austin, TX.  My husband Andrew was speaking, so I got to attend for free.  It’s a good thing I was able to sneak in because the tuition was $4000 for three days and that’s about as much as I paid for a semester of college.  In my industry, if we were to charge that much for a symposium no one would come because our industry complains about $300 – $400 for three days.  That being said, it was quite worthwhile and the one thing I remember most came from the very last speaker.

He first asked us to breathe…

As silly as it sounds, breathing (or rather breathing deeply) mantras have been coming up in my daily lessons for the last few months.  I’ve started taking Pilates, which is ALL about strength and breathing.  My doctor told me that although I couldn’t possibly find time to myself with my own business, two small children and a native plant conference to take care of that I must do one thing.  Breathe….imagine that?

She wants me to take three deep breaths at every traffic light to ward off stress and muscle tension.  Breathing seems to be more and more important to holistic healing these days.  Hmmm…to write well, I need to first breathe deeply and clear my mind.  To be healthy, I need to take three deep breaths at each traffic light.  To  get the most out of my Pilates class, I need to breathe deeply (and loudly – anyone who takes Pilates knows what I mean here…) while performing every move.  It’s not easy to breathe deeply.  We are not trained to do it.  We lose the muscle tone to breathe correctly after we are a toddler (so they say).  Most people breathe from their stomachs, not deeply from their lungs (I’m finding…).

What does this all have to do with plants?

Plants NouveauEVERYTHING…

Because – there wouldn’t be any breathing without plants!  There would be no oxygen for use to breathe without plants.  This is nothing new, but how many of you knew breathing correctly was the key to peace of mind, sustaining your health, and….better copy writing?   It’s all connected!  It’s a good thing I work with plants everyday or all this breathing stuff would be, well….moot!

In that writing class I also learned that people do want to know who is behind a website…so here’s a glimpse of what went on in my life this week.

Breathe…and all your troubles will go away!   Here’s a lovely picture of one of my most favorite plants in my garden for you to look at and, well – breathe.   Imagine breathing in the highly aromatic scent of this fantastic regal lily  (Lilium regale) while relaxing with a cocktail on your patio.

Happy Weeding,

Angela
