Until you’ve walked a European trade show…you ain’t seen nothing!

Everything is bigger, better and much more colorful than shows in the US.

I spent two grueling days walking the entire IPM Essen show in Germany last week. I’ve decided alles klar – or everything is clear, a common phrase in German. A sort of epiphany, if you will. It is clear to me that I need to spend a lot more time in Germany because there are so many really cool plants and really wonderful nursery people waiting for someone they trust to help them introduce their plants in the US and Canada.

The best conversations were, of course, over a nice tall glass of dunkel weiss beer. It’s a good thing that German beer is a constant in the Palmer household, because it sure makes a woman from the US look credible when she orders a tall dunkel weiss … and then another. Eyes glare and suddenly the talk of new plants starts flowing. It’s always good to submerse yourself in the culture to gain respect and I had no trouble doing this – being a lover of all things German.

It was a good trip with LOTS of follow up, but hopefully a few years from now, there will be lots of new plants from Europe featured by Plants Nouveau.

I’ll keep you posted..
