Growing Innovation Since 1987

Plants Nouveau is excited to manage the Norðîc® brand's genetics worldwide.  A-Plant's roots trace back to 1987, when nine Danish nurseries and one American nursery joined forces to advance plant development through collaboration, research, and shared expertise. From the outset, the organization's mission was clear: develop superior plants with exceptional health, performance, and climate adaptability for the evolving needs of growers and landscapes.

During its early years, A-Plant worked closely with renowned researcher Poul Erik Brander, whose contributions helped establish a strong foundation for the company's plant breeding and evaluation programs.

In 2000, the organization was restructured and relaunched as A-Plant 2000 ApS. Today, two leading Danish nurseries and one premier American nursery own the company. While the structure has evolved, the mission remains unchanged: fostering transatlantic collaboration and welcoming new production partners committed to innovation, quality, and advancing the future of horticulture.

Advancing Plant Breeding Through Research

Since its founding, A-Plant 2000 ApS has invested in research partnerships that drive meaningful advances in ornamental plant breeding. The company co-funded several projects at Statens Planteavlsforsøg in Årslev, now part of Aarhus University, one of Denmark's leading agricultural research institutions.

A Legacy of New Plant Development

Over the years, A-Plant member nurseries have independently developed and introduced numerous new plant varieties, continually enhancing and expanding the selection available to growers, landscapers, retailers, and homeowners.

Through decades of collaboration, research, and innovation, A-Plant 2000 ApS continues to connect leading nurseries across Europe and North America, bringing better-performing plants to market and helping shape horticulture's future.

Requirements for Earning the Norðîc® Designation

Only plants that meet A-Plant 2000 ApS's rigorous standards qualify for the Norðîc® brand. Each selection is evaluated for performance, reliability, and long-term landscape value.

To earn the Norðîc® designation, a plant must demonstrate:

  • Exceptional Climate Resilience
Proven performance in challenging coastal climates with fluctuating winter temperatures, strong winds, and variable weather conditions.

  • Outstanding Plant Health
Strong resistance and overall vigor are essential characteristics of every Norðîc® selection.

  • Adaptability Across Growing Conditions
Reliable performance in a wide range of soils and landscape environments.

  • Verified Performance Characteristics
Each variety is carefully evaluated and documented to ensure it delivers the ornamental, functional, and landscape benefits for which it was selected.

  • Genetic Authenticity and Uniformity
Consistent quality, true-to-type characteristics, and dependable performance from plant to plant.

  • Premium Quality Standards
Every Norðîc® plant must meet strict standards for production and market readiness.

  • Controlled and Traceable Production
