Delphinium Pixie Rocket™ Moon
Pure white flowers rise above the perfect plant.
We are so excited to be working with Walter Blom Plants to introduce the Pixie Rocket™ Series to North America. A brand new series of Elatum-type Delphiniums with the full flower power of traditional series, but at a reasonable height for racking and transporting (14-18” in full flower).
Extremely uniform bloom window within each color and across the entire series.
Production: Excellent for 1 to 2 gallon containers. Large flower spikes bloom right on top of the foliage, and are uniform within a variety and across the entire color range. The largest flowers bloom first, followed by multiple side shoots, which extend the flowering window.
Grower Appeal: Plants are incredibly uniform with strong stems that do not require staking. Blooming occurs in a tight window across all colors. Plants are 18” max height, making efficient racking and display possible. This series finishes a gallon in 8-10 weeks and does not require vernalization.
Customer Appeal: Cottage garden effect in borders, premium patio/container centerpiece.
Landscape Culture: Sun, partial shade; moderately fertile light soils with good drainage.

GROWER INFORMATION
PLANTING AND CROP TIMING
- This series should be treated as a premium crop due to its size, splendor, and TC input price point.
- We recommend that growers plant (1) 72cell liner in a 1-gallon to 2-gallon pot in late winter to early spring. This series is quick to finish a gallon in 8-10 weeks, and does not require vernalization.
- They are facultative long-day plants that can be manipulated with lighting and temperature to bloom early if required. Plants will flower under any photoperiod but will come into flower faster as days get longer.
TEMPERATURE AND LIGHT
- When actively growing or bulking, maintain night temperatures of 45°F or higher. When the plants are well-rooted, and the foliage reaches the edge of the finished container, cool the temperatures down to 30-40°F nights. It is best to keep the crop above 32°F to avoid complete dormancy.
- Delphinium elatum will do best when grown in full sun to part shade.
PINCHING AND PGR’S
- Do not pinch the new growth (crown) at the center of the plant. It is best to control plant growth with temperature. Cool them down to slow them down, warm them up to speed them up!
- A 10 ppm Sumagic PGR drench can also be applied just as the flower spikes emerge to hold the foliage down and increase flower visibility.
MEDIA, IRRIGATION AND FERTILIZATION
- The soil media in the finished pot needs to be porous and well-drained. Maintain a pH on the acidic side, but not lower than 5.8.
- Liquid feed at 100ppm nitrogen during the bulking stage, but make sure the fertilizer used is low in phosphorus.
- Plants can be grown evenly moist but not wet. Be very careful about watering if the plants are kept on the colder side.
